KUNINGAN.
There are many Annual Celebrations of Bali island, which constitute of religious and non-religious events and festivals. One of the most important Bali Events and Festivals that is considered very pious by the people of Bali, is the Kuningan in Bali. The festival of Kuningan in Bali is the end of the 10 day festivities of the Galungan, when the ancestors and Gods are supposed to descend to the family temples and have to be prayed to and deified.
Which always falls on Saturday (Saniscara), is the day when Gods and Goddesses accompanied by the holy ancestral spirits (pitara) come down to earth again to bless the people and the universe. It is believed that they will return to heaven in the midday. On this day, Balinese people do self-introspection by doing a meditation for human’s prosperity. To the Balinese Hindu followers, the Kuningan Day is a time for commemoration say thanks to the gods for his mercy to the human races.
The day before Kuningan is called Penampahan Kuningan. On this day Balinese make yellow rice and prepare offerings. Many Balinese make lawar particularly lawar babi (pork lawar).
Therefore, it is a time for holiday, visiting each other and fun. Every village in Bali will celebrate Kuningan in grand style, with colorful festivals held at the temple in some parts of Bali Island.
